ABOUT Alyona
Alyona Pynzenyk is a Ukrainian violinist based in Vienna, specialising in free improvisation, contemporary music and performance. She believes that collaboration and interaction between artists is a great source of inspiration, discovery, self-reflection, mutual growth and, moreover, fun.
She actively performs as a soloist and collaborates with renowned national and international contemporary music ensembles such as Klangforum Wien, NeuRaum, Schallfeld.
In her own projects, mostly based on free improvised and contemporary music, she continuously explores new approaches to improvisation and sound aesthetics. These include the unique group project series Impro Gang, Duo VV with Stefan Voglsinger (electronics), Duo with Philipp Kienberger (bass), Trio Pynzenyk/Duit/Rosilio (violin/drums/bass) and others. Alyona is also a founding member of Coincidence, a collaborative ensemble dedicated to contemporary and performative music.

In recent years, Alyona has participated in high-profile European festivals and concert series. Among them are Salzburg Festival, Wien Modern Festival, Impuls Festival Graz, Open music series of contemporary music concerts in Graz, STIO Festival für Neue und Improvisierte Musik, Styriarte Festival , Mixtur Festival (ES).
She has collaborated with well-known composers, performers, conductors and improvisers, such as Beat Furrer, Peter Ablinger, Ernst Kovacic, Carola Bauckholt, Joëlle Léandre, Michael Fischer, Bas Wiegers, Bruno Strobl and many others.Alyona is known for combining different musical styles in her performances, be it classical, contemporary or theatre music. She applies the same idea of flexibility to her work experiences, such as a substitute in the Graz Philharmonic Orchestra (AT), assisting in the Doctoral School of Artistic Research (KUG Graz AT), teaching in the ZMV Music School in Vienna (currently).
She received her classical music education in Ukraine (Uzhgorod Zador Music College, Mykola Lysenko Lviv National Music Academy) and then in Austria (University of Music and Performing Arts, Graz), where she completed a BA in Classical Music and an MA in Performance and Practice in Contemporary Music (PPCM) under the supervision of the Ensemble Klangforum Wien.
